<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5glBrma_RlhHsGRhYKcOPRaISmIAlKeHEKcA1Dv6a6789Ds_7jkwMI_nqUoddsRGtWDjgd0m0mSYmB9zALI7z3VjtDSVRBUvFlxO1qL-_jx9aONI3QQF_uDkA2qO0yqz_e-ldp7PFRKw/s1600/hair_loss_recovery.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5glBrma_RlhHsGRhYKcOPRaISmIAlKeHEKcA1Dv6a6789Ds_7jkwMI_nqUoddsRGtWDjgd0m0mSYmB9zALI7z3VjtDSVRBUvFlxO1qL-_jx9aONI3QQF_uDkA2qO0yqz_e-ldp7PFRKw/s1600/hair_loss_recovery.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
My hair loss was so subtle and gradual that it only dawned on me one day while I was pulling my hair back into a ponytail, that the circumference of my whole head of hair in my hand felt much, much less than it used to. I've always had annoyingly fine hair, or "fine...but lots of it" as my hairdresser used to say, but after that moment I became fixated by how you could literally see-through my hair when I wore it down, there was no density in it at all. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Of course I took to Google (as you do...) and spent more hours than I would care to admit looking up causes for hair loss. To be honest I'm still not entirely sure what caused it. At the point I noticed it, I was in the midst of my weight loss journey with Cambridge Weight Plan, which<i> is</i> a Very Low Calorie Diet, and <i>can</i> cause hair loss, but I was following one of their higher steps and still eating 'actual food', so don't feel I can definitively point the finger at that. I had also gone much lighter with my hair, and wonder if the consistent bleaching weakened my already thin hair. Of course it could be all of these things, or none of these things - fact of the matter was that it happened!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have come across a few select products which have helped to strengthen my existing lengths, while nourishing my scalp and encouraging new growth and I had to share them with you.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First up is <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Shea-Moisture-Jamaican-Black-Castor-Oil-Strengthen-Restore-Shampoo_1750091/" target="_blank">Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Shampoo</a>. I was initially drawn towards this as it is SLS free, but it has a cocktail of hair nourishing ingredients such as Jamaican Black Castor Oil to encourage hair growth, Peppermint to invigorate the scalp and Apple Cider Vinegar to clarify and regulate ph levels in the scalp. Being SLS-free, I was convinced it would leave my hair weighed down and not totally 'clean', and no, I don't get that squeaky clean feeling on my hair when I use this. It actually feels like there is some kind of residue left after rinsing, but my hair has never been softer or shinier, let me tell you. I can only assume that it's rinsing out the excess dirt and grime on my hair while retaining the natural oils in my hair. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I pair this with <a href="https://www.cloud10beauty.com/brands/dgj-organics/dgj-organics-thickening-conditioner-with-caffeine.html" target="_blank">DGJ Organics Thickening Conditioner</a>. It has the most dreamy lavender scent which I am all about, but more than that it contains caffiene, which helps to stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth. It's a lovely, lightweight texture, which means that it rinses out easily so I apply this from root to tip and make sure I massage it into my scalp for a couple of minutes to get maximum benefit from the ingredients.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As an overnight treatment, I have been enjoying the <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Shea-Moisture-Jamaican-Black-Castor-Oil-Strengthen-Restore-Treatment-Masque_1750083/" target="_blank">Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Treatment Masque</a>. It has a really thick texture, and smells sweet and slightly caramel-ly - it is like applying frosting to your hair (I have had many a cake-related dream while wearing this). Like the shampoo, it contains Castor Oil and Peppermint, but is also loaded with Shea Butter which conditions both the hair and scalp. It is intended to be used on the hair for up to an hour, but to be honest ain't nobody got the time to be hopping in and out of the shower all night, so I much prefer to apply this to slightly damp hair before bed then rinse out in the morning. It leaves my hair feeling really soft and healthy.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lastly, I have been trialling the new <a href="http://www.beautyexpert.com/nioxin-night-density-restore-overnight-treatment-70ml/11241301.html?utm_source=googleprod&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=gp_bodycare&affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&gclid=CKCbk8uc7swCFcluGwodt9QJEw&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CKy9t8uc7swCFQSE2wodKxEMGQ" target="_blank">Nioxin Night Density Rescue</a>. This lives on my bedside table and is now an entrenched part of my night-time routine. It comes with a pipette applicator and you need to use one full pipette dotted over the scalp. I then spend a couple of minutes massaging this into my scalp. The first thing I noticed about this was the small - it is just dreamy and even my husband mentioned how nice it was. It promises increased hair density in 3 months so this isn't a quick fix, it's working on the scalp to help promote growth. I have used this product for around 3-4 months now and I have some very noticeable new growth which I am certain this product has contributed towards.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I recently visited the hairdresser for some bayalage highlights (using Olplex - I wasn't taking any chances!) and I asked her if she could notice any new growth in my hair and she confirmed that I have around 3 inches of new growth. When I run my hands through my hair I can feel a definite thickness near my roots where the new growth has come through. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope this helps someone who might be going through hair loss or thinning hair. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCeG5baedQLHb0XmcqlcVMSFopv5eJC_-zGBdYTstIcE3KaxpAwMZj9too8HTW8XxwjRvGuBLklOcyQbU5wGxp72wMvNt2DdwP5ZgDE0LH_tX1HkBQU7MYRnTInsIxHSobitws7djBByw/s1600/nail_essentials.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCeG5baedQLHb0XmcqlcVMSFopv5eJC_-zGBdYTstIcE3KaxpAwMZj9too8HTW8XxwjRvGuBLklOcyQbU5wGxp72wMvNt2DdwP5ZgDE0LH_tX1HkBQU7MYRnTInsIxHSobitws7djBByw/s1600/nail_essentials.jpg" /></a></div>
I'm as guilty as the next person of applying nail polish in a slap-dash fashion half an hour before i'm heading out the door. And yet i'm <i>still</i> annoyed when I see that it has almost immediately smudged. Us women clearly cannot have it all, eh? However, there is a lot to be said for taking your time and making a bit of a 'thing' of properly doing your nails. Over the past couple of years I have amassed a little kit of products which I know I can rely on to help create a long-lasting manicure and I thought I would share them with you.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.beautyspin.co.uk/sally-hansen/cuticle-care-instant-cuticle-remover/" target="_blank">Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover</a> & <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Manicure-Sticks_1129281/" target="_blank">Boots Essentials Manicure Sticks</a><br />
If there is one thing that spoils any manicure, it's dry flaky cuticles. The Instant Cuticle Remover makes light work of softening cuticles and makes it a doddle to then push them back. In the early stages of using this, I had to snip away my fairly substantial cuticle skin (my god, there is no way of wording this nicely), however with continued use it really does keep them in check.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.lookfantastic.com/leighton-denny-crystal-nail-file-with-aluminum-case-135mm/10560298.html" target="_blank">Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File</a><br />
I very rarely actually cut my nails with scissors or clippers, and prefer to use a crystal nail file. I bought this file around 3 years ago and let me tell you, it's been well-used. At first I couldn't quite believe I had spent £12.50 on a nail file, however the promise of a lifetime guarantee really sealed the deal. The file feels very gentle on the nails - there's no rough sandpaper feel like a regular file. The crystal file helps to both smooth and seal the edges of your nails. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.feelunique.com/p/Mavala-Nail-Polish-Thinner-10ml" target="_blank">Mavala Nail Polish Thinner</a><br />
Not strictly part of the manicure itself, but this is an unsung hero of a product. As the name suggests, it helps to thin and revive any polishes which have become thick or gloopy. I sometimes find that my glitter polishes tend to dry out most quickly, so a few drops of this and a good shake and they are back to applying smoothly again. Apparently this can also thin out the oh-so-famous Seche Vite Top Coat when it starts to thicken.<br />
<br />
Essence <a href="http://www.essence.eu/uk/products/nails/top-base-coat/e/product/the-gel-nail-polish-base-coat/" target="_blank">The Gel Base Coat</a> and <a href="http://www.essence.eu/uk/products/nails/top-base-coat/e/product/the-gel-nail-polish-top-coat/" target="_blank">Top Coat</a><br />
I am aware that I have already raved about this <a href="http://scotlass99.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/blogmas-day-10-party-prep-essentials.html" target="_blank">recently</a>, but I cannot get enough of this duo. The base coat has a matte finish, and it feels like your polish then sticks onto the base coat. The top coat is super glossy, and although it is not marketed as quick drying, it is at least touch dry in no time. It also lives up to it's gel name in that it lasts and lasts. I can get about 3 times as long out of my manicure when I use these products - so, for example I can get 2 days out of a normal polish, but i'm still going strong for a week when I use the Essence base and top coat.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLD-FLAKES-JUMBO-SPECKS-GLITTER-Nail-Polish-Varnish-by-Saffron-London-08-/271902906616?hash=item3f4ead18f8:g:m-gAAOSwMmBVizEk" target="_blank">Saffron London Gold Flakes</a> and <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Barry-M-Aquarium-Nail-Paint-Collection_1450690/" target="_blank">Barry M Treasure Chest</a><br />
A full-on glitter nail isn't always appropriate - well, I think it's appropriate, but my work may disagree! So applying a flaky gold top coat is a not-so sparkly compromise. It can be used as a light coat on all nails, built up as a glittery accent nail, and I love the way it can refresh a 2-day old manicure. The gold is definitely a staple colour - it seems there is no colour it doesn't go with.<br />
<br />
<b><i>What are your manicure essentials?</i></b>Scotlass99http://www.blogger.com/profile/03313887401783825934noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199808393381430000.post-70074550227313220112015-12-14T21:16:00.000+00:002015-12-14T21:16:27.611+00:00Blogmas Day 14 | Make Ahead Cranberry Orange Sauce<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj47OZuCA3F6tGi8ykZ7_HfD-6C_aNYWa4SwfyUBjAOoE5JIFjuRrGPLwEl41-GZhALUeR58nCL7d5gigwAXiFCFPdnl4MsEkTnoTKR0idRC_xjU6ueZVil8bHduFGrRitkDsCPOrftB-A/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj47OZuCA3F6tGi8ykZ7_HfD-6C_aNYWa4SwfyUBjAOoE5JIFjuRrGPLwEl41-GZhALUeR58nCL7d5gigwAXiFCFPdnl4MsEkTnoTKR0idRC_xjU6ueZVil8bHduFGrRitkDsCPOrftB-A/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_4.jpg" /></a></div>
Cooking Christmas dinner for 11 people seemed like a good idea at first. Then, slowly the realisation that<i> I will actually be cooking Christmas dinner for 11 people!</i> I'm in full-blown planning mode and I'm drawing up shopping lists, cooking timelines and wracking my brain to think of what I can make ahead. Preparing elements of the meal in advance is essential - if only to reduce your stress levels and increase your level of enjoyment on the day.<br />
<br />
Cranberry Orange Sauce is my first make-ahead and it's a good 'un. I was never particularly fond of the jarred cranberry sauce, which always seemed like eating jam with your Christmas dinner. This sauce has more of a pourable texture and I think tastes a million times better than shop bought.<br />
<br />
This recipe makes roughly a pint of sauce. Depending on how many you are feeding, this might be too much. But luckily this sauce also tastes brilliant poured over ice cream and certainly livens up a plain bowl of porridge too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6gOgiE7wNjtJEDcKuTOvuXdmiZpW1CmDjPFStCCaN9qmB0CDoWgtDys9KGE4HLcpbfrHWNZgV0UVIDXWGtGzGyttKGoxDA0BlTwv1hL2yGc50BCbKX-OfpQs5JqqDrEWaPOR0gmlxvek/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6gOgiE7wNjtJEDcKuTOvuXdmiZpW1CmDjPFStCCaN9qmB0CDoWgtDys9KGE4HLcpbfrHWNZgV0UVIDXWGtGzGyttKGoxDA0BlTwv1hL2yGc50BCbKX-OfpQs5JqqDrEWaPOR0gmlxvek/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You'll need:<br />
350g cranberries (fresh or frozen)<br />
200ml water<br />
2 oranges (juice from both and zest from one)<br />
50g soft brown sugar<br />
50g granulated sugar<br />
1tsp vanilla extract<br />
Half tsp cinnamon<br />
Splash of alcohol (I used Jack Daniels but the options are endless)<br />
<br />
The method literally could not be any easier: Chuck it all in the pot and let it bubble away until it leaves a thick coating on a spatula. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-clS0kwWtNkD2Yd6q7fGE2F13ovRSbFwsDb_QaCNGXBFTQsmEJ06SYgzNO2Z4Hz338Tycr1hhcIhXqNqQo7E_kmM-tFu8TTDXw2Ol5Xl0K4CBOh9m0IfbmiQS5zr3eDLhwBi_dlew7dg/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-clS0kwWtNkD2Yd6q7fGE2F13ovRSbFwsDb_QaCNGXBFTQsmEJ06SYgzNO2Z4Hz338Tycr1hhcIhXqNqQo7E_kmM-tFu8TTDXw2Ol5Xl0K4CBOh9m0IfbmiQS5zr3eDLhwBi_dlew7dg/s1600/cranberry_orange_sauce_2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Let it cool completely and then you have 2 options depending on when you make this. If you make it a couple of weeks before, pop it in a freezer bag and stash it in the freezer until the day before, then thaw in the fridge. If you are only a couple of days ahead, pour into an airtight jar and it'll keep in the fridge until you want to serve.<br />
<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWVhcseIE5DSRGwNbDs_GtUqWvlzLBDFYOSRC_EY7TgyWIvGO2MQ0Z9stLtW6TS6vDbJqw8itZ-kJJijQhxNh7cEYAV8vbPyxATQcuQc8YYjuJU4havcOccTIG3xHr2B6TRqukjXnwgbM/s1600/christas_wreath_8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWVhcseIE5DSRGwNbDs_GtUqWvlzLBDFYOSRC_EY7TgyWIvGO2MQ0Z9stLtW6TS6vDbJqw8itZ-kJJijQhxNh7cEYAV8vbPyxATQcuQc8YYjuJU4havcOccTIG3xHr2B6TRqukjXnwgbM/s1600/christas_wreath_8.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
More Christmas DIY for you today in the shape of a lovely Christmas wreath. For many years we have opted for a plastic wreath, mainly for convenience really. However, with Blogmas in full swing I thought I would have a go at creating my very own real Christmas wreath and let me tell you, it's so easy to do!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc1xmyuEDox_JSZLK7Gp1hen8E7DyWtns1l8quOSz8IR66z5qlKYodXfiVXrEc9YYbgwELJCaR6Q_1g8w4IdljYSu1bHePTjE7zR6M4omO-jimHyjYd_gRYCKK7u3Sb8s7xsoB7FuhXq0/s1600/christmas_wreath_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc1xmyuEDox_JSZLK7Gp1hen8E7DyWtns1l8quOSz8IR66z5qlKYodXfiVXrEc9YYbgwELJCaR6Q_1g8w4IdljYSu1bHePTjE7zR6M4omO-jimHyjYd_gRYCKK7u3Sb8s7xsoB7FuhXq0/s1600/christmas_wreath_1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There's a few things you'll need:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>A wreath ring. I have a wooden one but they also come in metal. <a href="http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/natural-rattan-wreath-405cm/571263-1000" target="_blank">Mine</a> was £4 from Hobbycraft</li>
<li>Secateurs</li>
<li>Garden gloves (the Holly is prickly!)</li>
<li>Thin guage wire. <a href="http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/oasis-green-hobby-wire/569658-1000" target="_blank">This is</a> from Hobbycraft</li>
<li>Foliage of your choosing i.e. holly, ivy, fir branches</li>
<li>Ribbon for bow</li>
</ul>
I started by affixing some cedar bush sprigs. I think this may be known by a different name in the UK, but my Canadian friend who kindly supplied it knew it as cedar. I simply snipped the branches into smaller sprigs, about 6-8 inches long, bunched them together and then wrapped the wire round the sprigs and the wreath ring itself, making sure it was securely attached. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1gUujHkTDi0Ke4iaN7t9CNZ9JR75NChd5QFQui85lSnT_3eJ2celdGWrH9W6P5DzbzJLBnPHJ1mFYo3dLzrsUYTBMTF69d__qrjBD-CtVzIii4Fbdd74qyipoz_LXhEU5wa7fzy5q6QA/s1600/christmas_wreath_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1gUujHkTDi0Ke4iaN7t9CNZ9JR75NChd5QFQui85lSnT_3eJ2celdGWrH9W6P5DzbzJLBnPHJ1mFYo3dLzrsUYTBMTF69d__qrjBD-CtVzIii4Fbdd74qyipoz_LXhEU5wa7fzy5q6QA/s1600/christmas_wreath_2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I then repeated this, working my way round the wreath..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKWwZPagNzp9MyQZ4u75Oq8e7ktgdKIfqhC7FSLIqV9XKt1t-mIRz5Nv-0vVJjlsPeUTzJsjVL-cmfXmjTFkMJKZMFztu8c1hMTMmDIAbZrRAf67CI916h3OoEYTJbuwvFvLDKy-MdnKE/s1600/christmas_wreath_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKWwZPagNzp9MyQZ4u75Oq8e7ktgdKIfqhC7FSLIqV9XKt1t-mIRz5Nv-0vVJjlsPeUTzJsjVL-cmfXmjTFkMJKZMFztu8c1hMTMmDIAbZrRAf67CI916h3OoEYTJbuwvFvLDKy-MdnKE/s1600/christmas_wreath_3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I had had completely covered the wreath with the cedar, my creative juices really started flowing and I added a few sprigs of holly, anchoring the stems into the wreath with a small bit of wire or simply by pushing it into the wreath ring. Next up I added some pretty little flowering ivy-type shrub and finished with some broom. <br />
<br />
Now at this point I should probably let you know that all the greenery I used was foraged from around our house. I pulled on my wellies and, secateurs in hand, went in amongst the trees and started snipping away. The general rule I used was, if it was still surviving at this time of year, then it would survive once cut until after Christmas.<br />
<br />
Here is the completed wreath before I added the bow<br />

<br />
For the bow I used some hessian ribbon I picked up the last time I was at Costco - it is a 50 metre reel so I am wrapping ribbon round everything that does or does not move in an attempt to use it up! I used <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/46936021095120517/" target="_blank">this pin</a> to create the bow and it was super simple and easy to do.<br />
<br />
All in all this project took around 30 minutes start to finish - not too shabby for a novice wreath-maker like myself. I must admit I really love the finished wreath and think that it will become a new Christmas tradition for me.<br />

It's a beautiful city at any time of the year, but transforms itself into a winter wonderland, with twinkling lights everywhere, mulled wine flowing and every Christmas song known to man!<br />
<br />
In the morning when we arrived we had a wander round the shops on Princes Street (the main shopping street) and even popped into Harvey Nichols for a quick tour of the beauty hall. <br />
<br />
Shopping really does build up an appetite, and we were soon on the hunt for somewhere to stop for lunch. We decided to head away from the crowds because everywhere was packed out and ended up at Reekie's Smokehouse. The smell of the smoked barbecue meat as we walked through the door was amazing. We both ordered burnt ends, which are the ends of the beef brisket diced up and put back in the smoker - the result is a chewy bark on the outside and the most succulent, fall-apart meat on the inside. The fries were salty and crispy - I had rosemary salt on mine and they were a taste revelation!<br />
<br />
With full bellies were headed back towards Edinburgh's Christmas, a huge Christmas market with rides, music, mulled wine and food. We stopped for the obligatory hot drink = I had a Pimms Apple Cup which was spicy and sweet and very festive. <br />
<br />
We rounded off our day with a walk along George Street, which has a lot of more up-scale bars and restaurants. The most pretty by far is The Dome, especially at Christmas where they pull out all the stops and have lights snaking up the columns and large lit wreaths in the windows. It is gorgeous.<br />
<br />
I thought I would share some pictures from our day..<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibt9n3G4wvrKC6hdyfI861IKZ9ke8Tp1_RzTW6Bh2nZOC50siZdfJo8D1D45ITmYYp0ZSQX2CRR-UikrohmGKTpnIb4yxKtKDMi9R-cqqleMZh4lUSU1zTzcASX7bl5Fb2ElcPxIBjJV4/s1600/party_prep_scotlass99.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibt9n3G4wvrKC6hdyfI861IKZ9ke8Tp1_RzTW6Bh2nZOC50siZdfJo8D1D45ITmYYp0ZSQX2CRR-UikrohmGKTpnIb4yxKtKDMi9R-cqqleMZh4lUSU1zTzcASX7bl5Fb2ElcPxIBjJV4/s1600/party_prep_scotlass99.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I almost enjoy getting ready for a party more than the actual party, is that weird? Probably. I love a good pamper session and there's not always the time (or inclination) to indulge in said pamper session on a 'normal' day, so a night on the town is all the excuse I need.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have pulled together a few worthy essentials that I will be relying on to help me look my best in the festive season.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The perfect manicure is an essential stage of the getting ready process. I have been using the <a href="http://www.essence.eu/uk/products/nails/top-base-coat/e/product/the-gel-nail-polish-base-coat/" target="_blank">Essence The Gel Nail Base Coat</a> and <a href="http://www.essence.eu/uk/products/nails/top-base-coat/e/product/the-gel-nail-polish-top-coat/" target="_blank">Top Coat</a> for a while now and can't quite believe how good it is at creating a glossy manicure and being incredibly long-lasting. The magic comes from using both the base and top coat, which somehow bond together with your desired nail colour sandwiched in between to create a gel-like finish - but without the expense, curing and ridic removal process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having a bit of a tanned glow at this time of the year isn't a bad idea either. I was recently sent the <a href="http://www.crazy-angel.co.uk/Crazy-Angel/Midnight-Kiss-8-DHA-Tanning-Lotion.aspx" target="_blank">Crazy Angel Midnight Kiss Self Tan Lotion</a> to try out. It doesn't contain alcohol, parabens or mineral oil and has a really subtle yet pleasant scent to it. I applied before bed and in the morning it had developed to an even and pretty natural-looking colour. They also sent the <a href="http://www.crazy-angel.co.uk/Crazy-Angel/Supreme-Tan-Extending-Body-Moisturiser.aspx" target="_blank">Supreme Goddess Tan Extender</a> which contains a small amount of tanning agent to help with that awkward phase where your tan begins to fade, evening everything out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My hair needs a fair bit of styling product in it before it'll do what I want it to do. My normal going-out style is adding a bit of texture and movement with some loose curls, courtesy of my GHD's. I really enjoy using the<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/LOr%C3%A9al-Studio-Line-Wave-Spray/dp/B00H9FBWM4" target="_blank"> Loreal Studio Line TXT Wave Creating Spray</a> on damp hair. It adds a bit of hold and texture to my hair and helps the curls last all night. I also use it on my finished style for a bit of extra texture and definition, which it does without feeling crispy or sticky.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><b>What are your party prep essentials?</b></i></div>

Our office are going for out for dinner but it's not really a dressy affair, or should I say - we're not going out-out! Black Friday is a new phenomenon here in the UK and has only really taken off in the last couple of years. You'd be fooled, by the title of this post, to think that it's something I look forward to, but it's not. I can't help but feel that it's all a bit of a front, 50% off (but look closely for the teeny tiny "up to" which prefixes it), or a couple of brilliant deals to dangle the carrot and get you through the door/on the site and then only marginal discounts on the majority of stuff.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But, this isn't a post about how much I dislike Black Friday. It's a post about what I bought from the Black Friday deals. I know, I know..I'm a hypocrite!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I placed an order with Beauty Bay, who were offering 20% off. The package only arrived a few days ago, so I thought I would share my first impressions.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><a href="http://www.beautybay.com/haircare/sachajuan/hairrepair/" target="_blank">Sachajuan Hair Repair</a></b></div>
<div>
I first heard about this product when <a href="http://www.katelavie.com/" target="_blank">Kate La Vie</a> raved about it. Deep conditioners are 10 a penny and finding a decent one is really hard, I've found. I have now used this a couple of times and must say that so far, I'm impressed. First of all the packaging is so simple, and I love the fact it has a pump. There is nothing worse that trying to get the cap back on a bottle with a hand full of conditioner! I have been using 3-4 pumps and this is ample for my shoulder length hair. I have noticed that my hair has more of a shine and feels incredibly soft, and not weighed down at all.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spruce-Cuttings-Maison-Metallo-Candle/dp/B00PXH9XLC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449616102&sr=8-1&keywords=voluspa+spruce+cuttings" target="_blank">Voluspa Spruce Cuttings Candle</a></b></div>
<div>
I am in the midst of a full-blown candle obsession. I have heard good things about Voluspa candles and when I saw the discount it was a no-brainer. The scent is Spruce Cuttings, which is like Christmas tree in a candle; it's woody and 'green' and oh so festive. The metal tin is also gorgeous..I'm such a sucker for packaging!<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://www.beautybay.com/skincare/colleenrothschild/clarifyingdetoxmask/" target="_blank">Colleen Rothschild Clarifying Detox Mask</a></b><br />
I lay the blame for this product squarely with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/MsGoldgirl" target="_blank">MsGoldGirl</a>. She raves about this brand on her daily vlogs, so when I spied that this was discounted, it went right in my basket. I love using masks in the Winter; home from work, into my PJ's, mask on, feet up...bliss! I tried this for the first time last night and it is essentially a clay-based mask which gradually hardens as it dries. It is packed with charcoal and kaolin clay to help draw out impurities, and micronised silver which keeps bacteria at bay. It also contains glycolic acid so has exfoliating properties. After I rinsed it off my skin feels very smooth and not at all irritated. I think this is the type of mask which needs used on a fairly regular basis (the packing suggests 2-3 times per week) to really reap the benefits so in the run up to Christmas I plan to make a concerted effort to get my skin in tip top shape.<br />
<br />
<b><i>Did you pick anything up during Black Friday?</i></b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Today I thought I would share these muffins which I am crazy about. They are lightly spiced with ginger and cinnamon, and have a really familiar flavour which I think is due to the addition of black treacle. I have topped them off with a brown sugar cinnamon buttercream and let me tell you, it's the perfect combination! Oh, and they make your whole house smells amazing too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This recipe makes 8-10 muffins</div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">You'll need:</span></span><div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">50g light brown sugar</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">80g vegetable oil</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">80g milk</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">100g black treacle</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1 egg</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">220g plain flour</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1 tsp ground ginger</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1/2 tsb ground cinnamon</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">pinch salt</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1 tsp baking powder</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">And for the buttercream:</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">250g softened butter</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">500g icing sugar</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">60g soft brown sugar</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">2-3 drops vanilla extract</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">1 tsp cinnamon</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees celcius. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, oil, milk, treacle and egg. I used a whisk which worked well to combine the treacle with the rest of the mixture. Add in the spices, salt, and then the baking powder, bicarb and flour. Mix until just combined. Lumps are your friend where muffins as concerned, as you wan to keep the light texture and over-mixing can result in a chewy muffin. I used an ice cream scoop to fill some muffin cases which I had placed in a muffin pan. Pop them in the oven for around 20 minutes, but as all ovens vary, keep a toothpick on hand to test your muffins. As soon as the pick comes out clean, whip them out of the oven. </span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">You'll need to cool them completely before staring on the buttercream. I used my stand mixer to combine all the buttercream ingredients and whisked until light and fluffy. You could be all fancy and pipe the frosting onto the muffins, but I simply used a palette knife and smoothed the icing on in a semi-haphazard fashion.</span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I used perhaps the cutest little gingerbread men toppers that I got in Hobbycraft, I mean, just look at them! I love their little smiley faces..</span></div>

<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; widows: 2;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">These muffins are perfect with a cuppa or, if you like living on the edge, serve warm with custard or ice-cream. You won't regret giving these a try!</span></div>

<br />
Pinterest, my friends, is a wonderful thing. Need to know how to tie the perfect bow? It's on there. Need a recipe for creme brule? Yup, take your pick. <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/scotlass99/christmas/" target="_blank">My Christmas board</a> is growing by the minute right now, with meal ideas, wrapping, wreaths, cocktails...the list is literally never ending. I came across <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/316800155017239257/" target="_blank">this pin</a> some time ago, and just loved everything about it from the style of the font, to that fact it's a shadow box frame which means you can trap little objects between the backing board and the glass. The Range opened up a new store nearby s while I was in I decided to have a go at making my own interpretation and I thought I would share it with you, since it's Christmas n'all that!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo_VXTfVKkOY9HZTS6r5k4QX5cyEkCfntJ1vJ3FmZp4aFEL8Em8Q3Jvsgr62qaxzmCAyd356ItlpHoA5DAyKwl_qH8RfVUgz71aOVAnS3fYc9ZLZHRAfXrcdS7ALbOvj-47dklQNz71k/s1600/jingle_all_the_way_craft_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSo_VXTfVKkOY9HZTS6r5k4QX5cyEkCfntJ1vJ3FmZp4aFEL8Em8Q3Jvsgr62qaxzmCAyd356ItlpHoA5DAyKwl_qH8RfVUgz71aOVAnS3fYc9ZLZHRAfXrcdS7ALbOvj-47dklQNz71k/s1600/jingle_all_the_way_craft_2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
All you'll need to create this little piece of festive art is:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>A shadow box frame of your desired size. I picked up <a href="http://www.therange.co.uk/black-deep-box-frame-8x8in//the-range/fcp-product/117590" target="_blank">this one</a> from The Range at a bargainous £2.99 - Ikea also have <a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20078050/" target="_blank">a good selection</a>.</li>
<li>Something to fill the void in your shadow box. I picked bells since my wording was "Jingle all the way", also from The Range and £1.00 per pack</li>
<li><a href="http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/stix-2-anything-a4-clear-printable-acetate-sheets/572870-1000" target="_blank">Printable acetate</a> from Hobbycraft, £2.69 for 5 sheets</li>
<li>A printer</li>
<li>Scissors</li>
<li>Double-sided tape</li>
<li>Paper</li>
</ul>
<br /><br />
I love the style of writing so much from <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/316800155017239257/" target="_blank">this pin</a> that I purchased the .png images as I couldn't find another font which worked as well as this. Once I downloaded it I printed it onto the printable acetate and trimmed it to the size of the window of my frame. I used a really thin line of double-sided tape at the four corners of my acetate before securing it against the inside of the glass of the frame. Next I asked my husband Darren to create a candy-cane striped background on Photoshop for me, before printing it out and trimming it to the size of the apeture of the frame. This was slightly larger than the acetate. I emptied the bells into the cavity of the frame, positioned the background and replaced the back board of the frame,<br />
<br />
Then I sat back and admired my handiwork for a good 10 minutes. I may even have sipped a hot chocolate during said admiration. Hey, I worked hard doing all that cutting and printing!<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have recently rediscovered the Lorac Pro Palette which was laying unloved under my more often used pile of Naked palettes. It's a real 'staple' make-up item and has the kinds of colours I'm sure most of us reach for on a day-to-day basis; neutrals, a few shimmers shades and some darker crease colours. The pigmentation and texture of the shadows is spot on, needing only one swipe of the brush and very easy to blend. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today I started with the colour Light Pink on the lid and then used Mauve, an earthy mid-tone cool brown as a transition shade. I then used a smidge of Sable, a warm brown in the outer and inner corners of the eyes in an attempt to create a more deep-set eye look. I finished off with some Maybelline gel liner and my go-to mascara, Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Ultra Black. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my base I used the Too Faced Born This Way foundation in Light Beige. I'm completely on the fence about this foundation - it has great coverage but has quite a shiny finish that I'm not sure I'm a fan of. I then used Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer as my concealer under my eyes and to cover any additional redness. I haven't used this in a while as it's one of those 'I don't really know what to do with it' products. It's a thick cream, and I mean thick! I haven't quite got to grips with this product, but today I warmed a teeny bit on the back of my hand and I was really pleased with how it applied. Blush was MAC Warm Soul, a great, goes with anything type shade. I used Maybelline's Tantalising Taupe on my lips then added a bit of shine with Maybelline Petal Plush lipgloss on top.</div>

The gardens were brought alive with light and sound, with the plants and trees bathed in various hues. It was surreal to be strolling around such a place at night at this time of year, but there was a nice buzz about it and nice to see the park, which would normally be deserted, alive with people, light and music. There was also a performance by fire artists which was a lovely touch. We stood clutching onto our hot coffee vups while we watched - did I mention how cold it was?<br />
<br />
Of course I took my camera along. I am trying to improve my photography skills and have even moved the dial on my camera away from the Auto setting! I thought I would share with you some pictures from the evening.<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">First up is<a href="https://www.lush.co.uk/products/handy-gurugu" target="_blank"> Handy Gurugu</a> hand cream from Lush. I'm not normally a hand cream user, but the sudden dip in temperature has left my hands dry and flaky...lovely eh? So during a recent visit to Lush with my husband Darren in tow, he mentioned how dry his hands also were and that we should buy some Lush hand cream. I knew there was a good reason I married this man, I tells ya! We settled on Handy Gurugu as it had a rich, buttery texture but sank in relatively quickly. We now both use it as part of our bedtime routine and I must admit it does seem to be making a difference to both of our hands (both sets of hands? All of our hands? Why doesn't that sound right?!)</span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Next I have been using <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Schwarzkopf-got2b-Mind-Blowing-Fast-Dry-Hairspray-300ml_1648579/?cm_mmc=bmm-_-google-_--_-Boots%20Shopping%20-%20Category%20-%20Health%20and%20Pharmacy" target="_blank">Schwarzkopf got2b Mind Blowing Fast Dry Hairspray</a> after seeing <a href="http://www.katelavie.com/" target="_blank">Kate La Vie</a> rave about it on her blog. That girl has shamazing hair so I'm more than willing to buy up everything she uses in an attempt to emulate her tresses quite frankly! I had seen this product when it first launched but to be honest, I wasn't all that sure what it actually did. The packaging doesn't really shed much light on how to use and the instructions are minimal. I've been using it on freshly washed hair and working in sections using short blasts all over my head. It claims to speed up drying time which I haven't really noticed, but I tend to let my hair air dry til it's about 50% dry anyway and I haven't noticed much of a difference in that respect. However, where this product excels is adding bounce and 'life' to my fine hair. I struggle to find products that don't weigh down my hair or make it greasy-looking but this, when used sparingly, really seems to make my hair look better. I have also noticed that my hair keeps its style better for longer - I even had a day-three good hair day last week!</span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've had the <a href="http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod1060460" target="_blank">Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation</a> for some time, but have found that if I wear it in the warmer months it gives me way too much shine. I tried it early in November and found that the colder weather means that instead of descending into a oily mess, it imparts a healthy glow which, let's face it, is what we all need at this time of year. It also gives a decent amount of coverage - it's on the fuller side of medium, blends really easy and is generally low maintenance which is what I need in the half light rush of a weekday morning! The only down side of this foundation - and it's a biggie - is that it isn't, to my knowledge, available to buy in the UK. I got this while on honeymoon in the States. This is such a shame, because it is somethin' special indeed. </span></div>

<span style="display: inline !important; float: none; orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-indent: 0px; widows: 2;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">I recently came across this gem of a website called <a href="https://www.sassandbelle.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sass and Belle</a> which sells the most adorable things and it's a great place to pick up unusual wee gifts or stocking fillers - its not the 'normal' stuff you see in the high street stores. Here are my top picks. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial";"><b>I'm doing Blogmas! For those of you who don't know, that means I will be blogging every day until Christmas. I'm not known for my regular blogging habits so this will be a real challenge for me, but I'm really going to try and see this through - eeep! I hope you'll stick with me and enjoy reading.</b></span></div>

<span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial;">I tore open the first door on my advent calendar this morning (can I get a high-five for chocolate for breakfast?) , so that means It's officially the countdown to Christmas. I thought I'd kick off the festivities here on my blog with a Christmas Tag. I love reading these posts on other blogs - it always leaves me feeling so Christmassy! Right, let's do this!</span><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?</b></div>
<div>
</div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: 0.5px; line-height: normal; text-align: left; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px;">It has to be National Lampoons Christmas Vacation! Despite the fact I have seen it more times than I can count, it still has me laughing out loud! My favourite moment is Clark Griswold's rant. For those of you who haven't seen it, (shame on you!) here it is:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/66nSZzBNkTU/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/66nSZzBNkTU?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px;">I also have a guilty pleasure for watching those straight-to-TV movies that are played almost non-stop in the run up to Christmas. I watched one last week where a technology-obsessed family became stranded in a small town called (wait for it) Nowhere, and in the end they learn what Christmas is really about. It's called The Town That Christmas Forgot and i'm sure it will be shown again before Christmas, so keep an eye out if you like super cheesy but heart-.0warming movies.</span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: 0.5px; line-height: normal; text-align: left; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">

<span style="font-family: "arial";"><b>2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?</b></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: 0.5px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 26px; padding: 0px; text-align: left; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "arial";">We always open our gifts on Christmas morning. We all meet at my mum and dad's on Christmas morning and my sister sorts out all of the gifts, then we take it in turns to open something. My husband always wants to open something on Christmas Eve though, so we usually pick a small gift to open before we go to bed on Christmas Eve - usually some cozy Christmas PJ's.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.5px;">My dad has always loved putting lights up on the outside of the house, him</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: medium;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.5px;"> buying new lights from B&Q pretty much </span>signalled<span style="letter-spacing: 0.5px;"> the start of the festive period in our house. </span></span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.5px;"> I have so many memories of him up a ladder outside for hours on end, hammering up lights along the roofline of the house and stringing up more lights in the trees. We would then all be ushered outside for the grand switch-on. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial";">I love all Christmas food and for the past couple of years I have cooked on Christmas Day - oh, and there are 12 of us! I love preparing the menu almost as much as cooking and eating the Christmas dinner! My favourite part of the dinner has to be the sprouts - I know they are a love-them-or-hate-them menu item, but I am on a one woman mission to convert everyone I meet to the humble sprout.</span></div>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">As a child, it was the huge doll house that my mum and dad stayed up most of Christmas Eve building for my sister and I. My mum says they listened out for every noise, thinking it was one of us getting up, shhhh-ing and leaping behind the sofa with each creak. I remember coming down on Christmas morning and literally being in complete awe of it, I couldn't believe how lucky we were. In more recent years, Darren bought me a fancy-dancy stand mixer - it is bright blue and I just love it.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.5px;">Christmas Eve is usually spent prepping the Christmas dinner; peeling the spuds, chopping veg and cooking the Christmas ham. I picked up this beauty while in Florida in February. I ummm'd and ahhh'd over which one to choose, much to Darren's annoyance ("Heather, we've been looking at the same thing for 10 minutes, just. pick. one.!" I think he said!). The tricky thing is, that in american drugstores, they don't actually have testers, so I couldn't swatch any of them. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCicfOtRTaKL8ckVYjPvH4cplTpb3wG76GI08BGyXkLtXyOy7Ow3ix-QnhbFu42sE2cYtuFWfliDtkw86WOwGiXsuMJy0wC5YV06icxclZkMfOj_A54Id2zsl4HIz_nc3xc6lLAzhmbTY/s1600/milani_baked_blush_closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCicfOtRTaKL8ckVYjPvH4cplTpb3wG76GI08BGyXkLtXyOy7Ow3ix-QnhbFu42sE2cYtuFWfliDtkw86WOwGiXsuMJy0wC5YV06icxclZkMfOj_A54Id2zsl4HIz_nc3xc6lLAzhmbTY/s1600/milani_baked_blush_closeup.jpg" /></a></div>
The shade I eventually plumped for was Berry Amoure. It's a pretty mix of a cool-toned pink with bronze-peach marbling. If I'm honest, I've spent many minutes admiring the prettiness of this blush in the pan. I think i'm weak for these kinds of 'baked' products!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQFJsHg_LtPormtn_ChQZ_ZW0uBesj7QFc2edVZOeDuuxt0zYlXsIeTyI72N4RreKxd5rlb38zFdMChlFqj9dpXQ6Ae7AVRgWNaKSc3kAvunV0rcyja5dzW8XWiRSxZ4oemVMnFwpTTic/s1600/milani_baked_blush_handswatch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQFJsHg_LtPormtn_ChQZ_ZW0uBesj7QFc2edVZOeDuuxt0zYlXsIeTyI72N4RreKxd5rlb38zFdMChlFqj9dpXQ6Ae7AVRgWNaKSc3kAvunV0rcyja5dzW8XWiRSxZ4oemVMnFwpTTic/s1600/milani_baked_blush_handswatch.jpg" /></a></div>
As you can see from the swatch'y goodness above, the colours combine to create a lovely warm-toned neutral pink with just the right amount of shimmer to impart that healthy, i've-just-been-out-for-a-brisk-walk look!<br />
<br />
I had worried that, like the Bourjois baked blushes, these may have poor payoff, however that isn;t the case. In fact, if anything you need to go a bit steady when swirling your brush in this, or else you'll apply far too much! It's a lovely smooth formula which lasts a good 8 hours on me before starting to fade a little.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here it is on my cheekies! It's very natural in colour and texture. I only wish I'd bought more, since these are unfortunately not available in the UK. However, GB girlies might be able to find these in a blog sale or on eBay, so keep an eye out!Scotlass99http://www.blogger.com/profile/03313887401783825934noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199808393381430000.post-885266277756686752015-11-18T22:11:00.000+00:002015-11-27T23:17:34.677+00:00Products Not Worth The Hype<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
It's always disappointing when you lust after a product for ages and when you finally get your hands on it, it's so underwhelming you just cannot understand what everyone else saw in it. Doing as much research as possible does help minimise any let-down, but I have come across a few products which, despite my almost obsessive trawl of Google/Instagram/Twitter etc. etc., still haven't lived up to the hype. While it's never nice to slate a product or brand, I think it's important to be honest - not every product will work for every person.<br />
<br />
<b>NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation</b><br />
On paper, this foundation should be my holy grail; full coverage - check, lightweight - check, natural luminous finish - check, lasts all day - check...but no matter how hard I try I cannot get this product to work for me. I have tried every conceivable way of applying this base, I've used fingers and brushes, primers and oils, tiny amounts of product, powders, setting sprays - I have tried it all. The issues with this product start with application. The pump dispenses the teeniest drop of product, which apparently is all that is required for the whole face. Now, I'm under no illusion hat no matter how wonderful this product is, a drop of foundation no bigger than a couple of grains of rice just ain't gonna cut it to cover scars and redness. However, use more than this and all hell is unleashed (well..not quite, it's just foundation..). The problem with this foundation is that while initially it looks beautiful and flawless, it very quickly begins to almost separate and slide around on my face. On my skin this happens fairly quickly, usually with the first hour of wearing it. Less than ideal given the hefty price tag. <br />
<br />
<b>Bourjois Round Pot Blush</b><br />
Blush is my absolute weakness, so the Bourjois stand draws me in like a tractor beam to their little pots of cheeky goodness. I love the compact size of the products, the way they are subtly scented and the way the packaging matches the colour of the blush contained within. All sounds good so far, right? Unfortunately the baked texture of these products makes it nigh-on impossible to get payoff on my cheeks. Seriously, you'd develop RSI in your wrist trying to get product onto the brush! I have swirled, stabbed, and even scraped the damn thing and at the end of the day it's just not worth the hassle. I've already used up far too many minutes of my life trying to get some colour payoff - I have even considered rubbing the little pot directly onto my cheeks..! Such a shame, as the colour I have (Sienne), is a beautiful muted pinky brown. Let's hope Bourjois reformulate these soon.<br />
<br />
<b>Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade</b><br />
My brows are very low maintenance. A quick tidy up with the tweezers and a brush with a brow comb and they're happy. Last year with my wedding approaching, and having decided that I wanted to do my own make-up, I thought I would treat my brows to a bit of extra grooming and ABH Dip Brow Pomade ( Pom-ade or pom-ad?) seemed like the ideal choice. The colour is perfectly ashy, and it's relatively easy to apply once you realise that you need a very very small amount of this. Plus, when it dries down it ain't going anywhere til you remove it. The one major downside of this product is how quickly it dries out and becomes flaky and crumbly. This, along with the fact you need very little means that it would be impossible to even make a dent in this by the time it starts to dry out. Perhaps a smaller pot would be the answer? Or a rethink on the packaging?<br />
<br />
My tips for avoiding being let down (by beauty products....):<br />
<ul>
<li><i>Research.</i> Blogs, Google, Pinterest and Instagram are all good sources of information. Check out swatches on different skin tones. </li>
<li><i>Don't rush.</i> There's always a fair bit of hype surrounding new releases, usually followed by a swathe of positive reviews. If you sit it out a bit, you tend to find more honest reviews appear and you can make a more rational choice.</li>
<li><i>Try before you buy.</i> This might sound obvious, but if it's available at a counter or stand, get yourself down there and ask the sales assistant to try the product on you then wear it for a few hours. This will give you an idea if it's worth the splurge.</li>
</ul>

<b>Are there any products which have disappointed you recently?</b></div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Taking cheesy selfies in the shower...perfectly acceptable behaviour..?!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A good body scrub is hard to find. I have had high hopes for many a product only to be disappointed when, after scooping some product out of the tub, the grains immediately dissolve/rinse away before I can even start scrubbing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I first came across an article for <a href="http://uk.frankbody.com/" target="_blank">Frank Body</a>, I had pretty much given up hope of finding a good body scrub and instead had been using exfoliating mitts. Don't get me wrong, they do a great job of smoothing my skin, but they can feel a bit harsh and were leaving my skin red and tender. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This particular article I found touted Frank Body <a href="http://uk.frankbody.com/products/original-coffee-scrub" target="_blank">coffee scrub</a> as a miracle product for those with various skin concerns, ranging from acne to stretch marks. I had to try it! I ordered up the <a href="http://uk.frankbody.com/products/bundles" target="_blank">An Original Introduction bundle</a> which contains the original body scrub and body balm. As a side note, the <a href="http://uk.frankbody.com/" target="_blank">website</a> is super cute and stylish, it's well worth a nosey. I think the branding is spot on, it's a bit cheeky and a bit naughty, but without being seedy or sexist. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgTc9yda9E5-myII15tx9rE-sE8hwNHjJ15MRmVxtONYvLWR6mKPwa3gkyif5tW9tEzIdI6lBlkQfJsKY0q72OvJNhewT4JUibbh_oxot_t6Q3J2BCEq8w6kOQOfQXIomicaf84uE9fOc/s1600/frank_body_original_body_scrub.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgTc9yda9E5-myII15tx9rE-sE8hwNHjJ15MRmVxtONYvLWR6mKPwa3gkyif5tW9tEzIdI6lBlkQfJsKY0q72OvJNhewT4JUibbh_oxot_t6Q3J2BCEq8w6kOQOfQXIomicaf84uE9fOc/s1600/frank_body_original_body_scrub.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I digress...a couple of weeks later the package arrived and inside the blush pink box were my goodies. I literally ran to the shower, and for someone who doesn't run often, this is a big deal folks. There's a bit of a knack with using this product; switch on the shower and get the skin wet, then switch the shower off and rub the scrub into damp skin for 5-10 minutes. This seems like such a long time when you are loitering around in the shower, gradually freezing your tush off, but it's really important to leave it on to get the most benefit from it. The first time I rinsed this off I was amazed by just how soft it made my skin, leaving a thin veil of sweet almond oil behind afterwards. This thought was closely followed by pure shock at the state of the shower cubicle - it is a messy job and the coffee grounds were <i>everywhere</i> but, it rinses away easily and it entirely worth it. I blotted my skin dry and then followed up with the body balm which is an unusual squeezable oily balm. This is also a pretty special product and left me stroking my skin in a very unnecessary way for the rest of the evening.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have used this product once or twice per week for the last couple of months (the website suggests continuous use for maximum benefits on conditions such as cellulite and stretch marks - this ain't no quick fix) and can't recommend it highly enough. It has noticeably improved the texture and elasticity of my skin and I can imagine that the results will only get better the longer I use the scrub.</div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today marks a momentous occasion indeed - my first ever outfit post! I have umm'd and ahh'd for a long time about sharing some of my outfits on my blog, but finally decided that life really is too short to be giving it so much thought, so I put on my big girl pants and just did it! You can imagine the look I got when I asked Darren if he would come into the field with me and take some pictures...but once I explained he reluctantly agreed, mumbling "remember I aint no David Bailey" as we walked though the corn field next to our house.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While in Glasgow yesterday I popped into Forever 21 to have a look at their plus size offerings. I always used to get so confused with the sizing in Forever 21 when they first opened in the UK as they used US sizing which I think is 2 sizes less than ours...I think! Thankfully, however they now have the UK sizing on the labels which makes things much more straight forward. I spotted this checked shirt right away and fell a little bit in love with it before I even tried it on. Annoyingly, I can't find it on the Forever21 website, although there are a couple of similar styles on there. It's a longer length and comes with a skinny belt which makes it a bit quirky and interesting. Today I styled it with some plain black leggings and ankle boots and also popped a vest underneath for a bit of a different look. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I feel a bit of an OOTD fraudster as this isn't very high fashion and I don't have the perfect matching accessories but do you know what, this is real life and this is what I actually wear. Speaking of real life, do you know how hard it is to get up onto one of those ruddy hay bales? Nigh on impossible! The method I used was to take a run at it (whilst trying not to break my ankle in my heels), jump up and then Darren literally manhandled me up onto the blimmin' thing while I shouted "keep pushing!" and flailed my legs around trying to get traction to push myself up...it's all about the glamour over here! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I'm really not very exciting when it comes to styling my hair. I have very fine hair which seems to be shedding even further (eep!...but that's another post entirely) so creating some loose curls is about as fancy as it gets with me! Styling products tends to either weigh down my fine hair or make it dry and crispy - do you feel my pain yet? So when Bed Head got in touch to say they were launching a new product and sent me a sample, I was pretty sceptical...</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Called Joyride, they describe this product as <i>the World's first Powder Primer Balm. It creates the
perfect base layer for any style
and keeps it that way.
JOYRIDE primes the hair with a fine,
invisible powder that adds texture
and grip making styling and hold easy.
So, get a grip and hold on, for
the JOYRIDE of your life!</i></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I was fairly convinced that this product would be a powder, something along the lines of the ultra-fine texturising powders so I was a little surprised when I cut open the sachet this morning to find a clear gel inside...that'll teach me to read things properly!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As instructed I applied this to clean, damp hair and concentrated on mid-lengths and ends. Initially I was quite unimpressed as my hair didn't feel any different after applying. I expected to feel some kind of tackiness or grit but my hair felt the same. I went ahead and dried off my hair as I would normally - using my heat styler to smooth out my natural curls and add a bit of volume. It was at that point that I could see that my hair had a subtle texture to it, almost like second day hair but without any oiliness. I ran the straightener through to create a loose wave and found that I didn't need to use any of my other normal styling products to get the subtly defined waves that I tend to go for. This product seems to have some level of hold in it, but feels like it's just your hair. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I snapped a couple of quick selfies in the car before work, which accounts for my sleepy face! Concentrate on the hair, people!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Darren and I celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary on Saturday and after much stressing about not being able to find a lodge with a hot tub (got to be done!), we ended up booking a glamping pod in Aberfeldy. The word 'glamping' is far too similar to 'camping' for my liking, so I was a bit apprehensive...a girl needs her straighteners and I wasn't keen on traipsing off to a communal toilet block in the middle of the night for a wee!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Alas, I needn't have worried, because our super little pod had plug sockets aplenty and it's own real, full-size, actual flushing toilet and shower inside! </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We set off after work on Friday, and after the most beautiful scenic drive through the hills, we made our way up the dirt track towards our home for the weekend perched up on the hillside. Our first task was to get the fire pit lit and get our burgers cooking - we were both starving! We sat and ate outside with the sky gradually growing dark and the only sounds being the crackling of the logs on the fire and the odd sheep making it's presence known. The rest of the evening was spent sipping on </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Prosecco before retiring to the pod where we cranked up the stereo system and sang and danced at the top of our voices until the wee small hours!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The next morning we woke up and got the fire going again for breakfast of buttermilk pancakes and lovely crispy bacon. I was sure the pancakes cooked on the fire would be disastrous but they were actually really lovely! We opened all of our anniversary cards and teared up over all the kind words and sat reminiscing about our wedding day last year. Then we leisurely got ourselves ready and headed out towards Loch Tay for the day. I was keen to rent a little motor boat and explore the Loch but Darren chose that particular moment to tell me he was afraid of deep water and, seeing the fear in his eyes, that idea was quickly scrapped. Instead we just walked around the pretty little village of Kenmore which sits right on the banks of Loch Tay. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We had our anniversary meal at The Three Lemons in Aberfeldy and would highly recommend it - especially for their wood-fired pizzas..to die for! Then it was back to our pod for s'mores on the fire and yet more Prosecco. It was such a peaceful, chilled out night round the fire.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Oh to be 20 again...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Earlier this week I was invited to head along to the Lush store at Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow to help them celebrate their 20th Birthday. It was lovely to be able to have a proper look at the products - the store is usually pretty busy and it's quite tricky to have a good old mooch around. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We were introduced to some of the Oxford Street store exclusives and boy oh boy do they have some amazing stuff. I am hoping that they will consider rolling some of these out over the rest of the country, otherwise a trip to London may be on the cards. My favourite was the Experimenter Bath Bomb, which was dropped into a small bowl of water. I can only imagine how pretty it would be in a full size bath - like bathing in liquid rainbow!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I was also treated to a delightful arm exfoliation using the Life's A Beach Body Scrub Powder, which is an unusual product in that it's mainly a blend of sea salt and sand. I was stroking my arm like some kind of weirdo for quite a while afterwards - I couldn't believe how soft it had made my skin feel.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lush also have a Spa. Who knew? Not me! And by the sounds of it not just your run-of-the-mill soothing music and soft lighting kinda spa. Lush seems to have considered the whole sensory experience with specially choreographed music, unusual techniques and spa-exclusive Lush products. I must admit it sounds amazing, completely indulgent and I fully intend to treat myself at some point at their Spa in Edinburgh.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We got to try our hand at creating our very own <a href="https://www.lush.co.uk/products/big-blue" target="_blank">Big Blue Bath Bomb</a>, which is one of their hero products. It contains arame seaweed, which not only softens your bath water, but the iodine helps to regulate your metabolism plus the lavender oil helps to calm <i>and</i> is an antiseptic - there's a lot of good stuff packed into that little blue ball! If I wore a hat, I would take it off to the people in the Lush factory who make these all day (up to 200 per hour I'm told!), you need some serious arm muscle to smoosh it together to form a ball. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Look at my wee face. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The evening was rounded off by a game of 'Who Wore It Best?', getting creative using their range of knot scarves. I panicked, folded the scarf up and tied it round my head. Not my finest look let me tell you. Needless to say I didn't win that particular game...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lush kindly gave me a selection of products to try so keep an eye out for my thoughts on those in an upcoming post. It was a lovely, fun evening and it was great to meet some rather awesome fellow bloggers too.</span><br />

<br />
<div>
I first learned about this foundation when Sam Schuerman raved about it recently and I pretty much dismissed it as being one of the many products which never make it across to the UK. So imagine my delight when I found myself (read: made a beeline) for the beauty aisle in Tesco and saw it sitting on the stand! Day -made. No seriously, it was a slow Saturday. It was only £5.99, which I assume was an introductory price, so if you're curious about this product, I suggest you hot foot it down to Tesco soon. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It claims to wear for 24 hours. That's nice an' all, but where will it end with these ridiculous claims? 72 hour wear?! We will have to have the damn thing surgically removed from our faces next!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqCjP60M4bfQBAMUoO4yYDjBEFjr2vCSClxtvjts3xUIJ0m6lXKkfx1dEjb0AWu8A4EZ5oX63nUv9VgkDslcjvlO9scThpTFxIGp2Dhyphenhyphene3wH0Oh9D0CyG6lz1R7buGtVI3bhgLQ89_uE/s640/blogger-image-1596264500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqCjP60M4bfQBAMUoO4yYDjBEFjr2vCSClxtvjts3xUIJ0m6lXKkfx1dEjb0AWu8A4EZ5oX63nUv9VgkDslcjvlO9scThpTFxIGp2Dhyphenhyphene3wH0Oh9D0CyG6lz1R7buGtVI3bhgLQ89_uE/s640/blogger-image-1596264500.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I really like the packaging; it's easy to control how much you use by squeezing out the products and it also has a narrow nozzle so there's no mess or overspill. I picked up shade 20 - Sand, which would be suitable for those around a MAC NC25. The foundation has a fairly firm consistency and I assumed that when I applied it, it would be full coverage. But, it actually applies to a medium coverage which can be built up where needed. I noticed that it doesn't become matte until it had dried down, which happens after about 5 minutes. True to the claims, when it did dry down the finish was perfectly matte but I did find that I needed to add a bit of 'life' back into my skin with some strategically placed highlighter. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Let's have look at some pictures. The first is bare-faced (eek!), the second with all make up applied and the third is after about 8 hours, just to show how it wears after a significant amount of time.</div>

Sorry for the extreme close-up in the last photo, but I wanted to get close in so you could see if the foundation had slipped or faded. It does seem to have rubbed off slightly round my nose if I'm being uber critical, but apart from that it held up well and still looked good. The finish changed from matte to more natural and skin-like, but without any oiliness. If you're looking for a fairly affordable, long-wearing foundation you just might like this!</div>

<br /></div>
I thought if start the new year by taking a look back at 2014 and some of my favourite memories. These were captured on my trusty old iphone camera which is never far from my side. <br />
<div>

It was in this totally remote setting with no phone signal or wifi (eeek!). It was so lovely just to spend some couple time together and enjoy exploring the beautiful surroundings. We even hopped on the ferry across to Belfast for the day where it poured down with rain the whole day! I even tried my hand at vlogging - check it out <a href="http://youtu.be/g4fGymIUvbE" target="_blank">here</a> </div>

In April we moved out of our little one-bedroom apartment. This picture makes me laugh - we were trying to carry as much stuff as we could because we had 5 flights of stairs to walk up and down! We moved into a slightly bigger place with a spare bedroom...and only one flight of stairs!</div>

We took them to see The Kelpies, two massive sculptures of horses built beside the Forth and Clyde Canal. It was such a beautiful evening and they looked stunning in the fading light.</div>

In May I picked up my wedding dress and this was me trying it on for the first time! I fell in love with the dress when I initially tried it on in a size 12, but wasn't quite expecting the extra amount of fabric on the skirt once it was sized up to my correct size. Regardless of this, I still loved it and it really started to feel like I was getting married!</div>

In July it was time for my Hen Do! My bridesmaids excelled themselves organising it. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in the Duchally Estate in Gleneagles with it's own balcony. As you may be able to tell from the picture, one evening we had a Country theme and everyone got right in the spirit! It was a brilliant night which ended with a show and tell where everyone brought something and shared a story about me and them, it was amazing! During the day we chilled out at the spa, played rounders, ate brilliant food and at night we all got glammed up and headed to Gleneagles Hotel for a meal - perfect weekend which I will treasure.</div>

I struggle to put into words exactly what the day meant to me. Our ceremony was outside in my aunts garden and the sun shone as we said our vows. Darren looked so handsome in his kilt, even though he isn't Scottish is was a lovely guesture for him to wear it for my benefit. Later on everyone filled the dance floor and I literally danced the night away. It was our perfect day.</span></div>

Our was a bit non-traditional as instead of two weeks by the beach we headed off for a road trip of Southern USA! We started in Atlanta, Georgia before heading to Talladega in Alabama to watch the NASCAR. Then we went to Memphis, where we explored Graceland, Sun Studios and drank way too m<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">any cocktails on Beale Street! We then headed to Nashville. Now if you ever have the opportunity to visit, do it! It is an amazing place. We even took in an NFL game at LP Field which, although I don't understand the game, was a great experience. We stayed at an Airbnb in East Nashville which was an annex to a bigger house. It was super cosy and our hosts baked us fresh cookies every morning. Our next stop on the road trip was Pigeon Forge which is famous for being the birthplace of Dolly Parton! She has her theme park there, appropriately named Dollywood. It was such a pretty setting, up in the mountains with all the autumn leaves. On our way back, we had 24 hours to spend in New York City. We had agreed on the places we wanted to fit in - The 9/11 Memorial, Times Square and Empire State Building. We also saw Taylor Swift perform at Times Square! We were both completely knackered when we got back home, but we have so many happy memories and experiences to look back on it was totally worth it!</span></div>

<b>A couple of weeks ago I was invited along to find out more about the Glam Candy Make Up School at the beautiful Papillon Salon in the heart of Glasgow.</b> We met the Managing Director of the company, Hayley, who was just lovely and shared the story behind the company. Glam Candy offer various masterclasses and well as more professional courses for those keen to get into the industry. Alongside the professional course, they also offer an agency service for new artists. I think this is such a spot-on idea as I would imagine it's tough to get bookings until they become more established.</div>

We were introduced to Carol and Nikki from the Pro Artist Team. Nikki showed us how to achieve a couple of looks; a beautiful neutral smokey eye and a Christmas party-appropriate purple sparkly look. Nikki really knew her stuff, especially when she started pulling out her palettes - it was a blur of Lorac, Hourglass and Anastasia Beverly Hills! I got a bit giddy at that point and before I knew it I was in the make up chair and Nikki was teaching me how to achieve the perfect eyeliner flick and smoking up my eye look with the Lorac Mega Pro palette!</div>

We were kindly gifted a brush set and I have been really enjoying playing with them all. In particular I have been enjoying using the fan brush, which I have been using both to contour and highlight as it seems to both concentrate the product and blend at the same time. I also love the little spooley brush for taming my brows and the small shader brush for smoking out my liner on the lower lash line. The angled brush is soft and fluffy and is ideal for crease work.</div>
